Biodegradable Stickers - FAQs

Whether our customers are new to ordering labels or simply ordering repeat labels, they obviously have questions about the labels themselves or the ordering process. We believe that no question is too small! We have put together some of the frequently asked questions when it comes to printing eco-friendly labels and brilliant biodegradable stickers.

How many different material choices do you offer?

Currently we offer 6 different choices of material between both biodegradable and compostable sticker options. So, depending on if you would like a natural paper feel or a high gloss finish or something in between, then we are pretty confident that you will find something pleasing.

How long will my biodegradable stickers last?

How long biodegradable stickers and compostable labels last is largely dependent on storage conditions and can be affected by heat, light, and moisture. Generally, you are looking at a shelf life of 6 months to 2 years depending on the material.

It is important to consider how the consumer will store your product, for example is it going into the freezer? Or shower? What are the conditions your labels need to perform in?

Natureflex compostable labels for example offer a shelf life of half a year and are suitable for a variety of products including food as they are resistant to grease, oil and fat. By comparison, Bagasse cane fibre labels and stickers offer a shelf life of 2 years.

Can compostable labels and stickers be used in home composting?

The labels can be put into a normal home compost, but the breakdown may vary as they have not been tested under these circumstances.

Does biodegradable mean compostable and vice versa?

No, in a nutshell. Compostable labels break down into organic waste (under the right conditions) that can eventually be re-used and biodegradable labels break down naturally into their component parts.

How long do compostable labels take to decompose?

Approximately 6-12 weeks.

Are both the ink and the glue biodegradable?

The ink we use has been certified for compostability for both home and industry and is recoverable through composting and biodegradation in accordance with leading standards, such as EU Regulation EN 13432.

As for the glue, it is fully compostable for compostable labels and stickers. Likewise, the glue on biodegradable labels and stickers is biodegradable.

What is the minimum order number for printing biodegradable stickers and compostable labels?

250 labels is the minimum order.

What is the recommended order number for labels and biodegradable stickers?

Printing a larger amount of biodegradable stickers and labels is more cost effective than a small number. The cost per label comes down considerably with a larger order, so we can quote you for different amounts for you to compare the cost savings.

What is the difference between a sample and a proof?

If you ask us to send you a sample, we will post you an example of a label we have previously printed so you can assess the label texture and the colours of the ink. It helps to give you ideas for your own label design in terms of the different natural label materials.

Once you have finalised your design, we can email you with a mock-up or proof. This means you can check the copy and make changes before committing to go to print, after which changes cannot be made. A digital proof is free but there is a charge for a wet proof.

Why would I need a wet proof?

If there is a degree of uncertainty and you want to see what your label will actually look like on the product, a wet proof can be useful. However, most of our customers feel a digital proof is sufficient. A wet proof is a printed sample of your particular label, on the chosen material, uncut.

What is your turn around time for label and biodegradable sticker orders?

There can sometimes be a bit of back and forth between customer and printer in the early stages of designing labels and making decisions. After the order has been confirmed and signed off, we can have your labels delivered to you relatively quickly and we pride ourselves on being able to provide a prompt service. However, beginning the process early is always a good idea.

Can I have labels in a particular shape?

Yes of course. Many customers chose a container for their product first, before choosing the label. We can help you select a label size and shape which will enhance and compliment the product and its container. Irregular shaped sustainable labels are possible with us.

How can I save money on my labels?

Consider a smaller label size and less ink perhaps for sustainable labels and biodegradable stickers that won’t break the bank.

My label has a bar code, will that be a problem?

We print bar codes on labels all the time. We will let you know if your chosen biodegradable sticker or compostable label material does not support a bar code.

How can I pay?

We will send you a proforma invoice and payment is made before printing for all new customers. You can simply make a BACS payment into our account.

What about a repeat order?

Simply confirm there are no changes to the original artwork or provide us with the changes and updates you wish to make. Then confirm the number of labels or stickers you require, and we can price accordingly.
