Erica Jewellery

Great things come in small packages. And that is certainly true when it comes to Erica Jewellery, with the collection including some of the most beautifully unique pieces. Her biodegradable stickers are equally stunning, perfectly complimenting the product and Erica’s own green ethos. The very talented Erica Sharp talks about how she uses recycled materials in creating her jewellery and her plans to teach jewellery making in the near future.

FIRST A BIT ABOUT ERICA JEWELLERY

“I'm a jeweller based in Berkshire, and I create nature-inspired jewellery. My background originally is in art and illustration, but after a career break, I took up silversmithing as a hobby and got hooked! After a lot more learning, I focused on a technique called wax carving, which translated my illustration skills really nicely into 3D. It's like sculpture but on a tiny scale, and pieces are cast into precious metals from my wax carvings. I started a very small business initially, just selling a mini collection of jewellery, but 6 years on - my business has grown and I've gone on to create commissioned pieces for clients in the UK and overseas.”

What are the main challenges in your line of work?

“It can be a bit of a juggle as I work alone. I'm not always the best at prioritising jobs, especially if I have ideas and inspiration - I just want to get them down on paper or start making new pieces. I've been better at using the time in quieter periods to work on promotion, SEO, photography etc. Busier months are much more focused on making and corresponding with clients. I try to keep my social media platform and blog updated as often as I can. Jewellery is expensive and cash flow has been a challenge at times, but I've added new designs very gradually and have grown slowly.”

Any plans for the New Year?

“I have a background in teaching which I love and will be teaching jewellery making from January 2023, which I'm looking forward to. I also have some ideas for a new mini collection which I will start to create early next year.””

What motivated you to seek out eco-friendly labels?

“I'm conscious about materials. I use mostly recycled silver and gold, and have started using traceable and lab-grown gemstones in some of my work. Scrap metal is reused and recycled, and I try to avoid harsh chemicals in the workshop.”

How did you find the GREEN LABEL company?

“I came across the Green Label company online and am thrilled with the quality and finish of the products you offer.”

What do your customers think about your sustainable labels?

“The labels are beautiful, and I get a lot of compliments, and a bonus that they're biodegradable too.”
