The Parade Cinema
There is something completely special about a trip to the cinema, and to an independent cinema even more so! We recently had the pleasure of working with the Parade Cinema in Marlborough, supplying the newly opened venue with biodegradable stickers for their delicious refreshments and snacks.
We spoke to Caroline about the refurbishment of this stunning Georgian building which houses the cinema, their passion for sourcing local products, and why they chose eco-friendly stickers. These are her words…
A new business venture
“After 18 months of fundraising and development – we have finally opened our doors at The Parade Cinema in Marlborough. With the huge and generous support of our local community and investors, we have created an independent cinema in the very heart of Marlborough Town. It is just over 50 years since there was a cinema in the town and, with our opening films including ‘No Time to Die’, we are offering a wide and varied range of films to our local audience.”
What the venue offers
“Our splendid late Georgian building houses a state-of-the-art cinema with 104 seats, 70 in the stalls and 34 in the balcony. It has a fully licensed bar and a café which will serve food and drinks from 9.30am till late. There is additional upstairs seating linked to the balcony which can be used for private parties.
Outside there is a substantial paved garden where food and drink can be served and enjoyed in the fresh air. Our auditorium has comfortable seating with tables as well as double ‘love’ seats along the back row of the stalls and balcony.
Our guests will be able settle back, relax and watch a film and enjoy the food and drink from our café and bar.”
The refurbishment challenges
“In terms of the actual build and repurposing of the old Chapel and Manse, we identified as many ways as possible to minimise the impact of our business on the environment.
We have carefully managed all the repairs of this historic building, replacing like with like and considering both the aesthetic as well as the performance. Our main challenge was to contain the noise of the cinema/films as the building is in the middle of a town with many neighbours.”
Eco-friendly labels
“We are very pleased to be using eco-friendly labels from the GREEN LABEL company on our sweets and treats range: fizzy sweets, dark chocolate ginger and salted nuts. We have designed colourful sustainable labels for all our veg-ware pots which allows us to fully recycle/compost our packaging which is very much part of the ethos of the cinema.”
Sourcing local products
“We have worked hard to source as much local, seasonal food and beverage from environmentally aware suppliers. This includes My Apple Juice who are based 5 miles from the cinema and produce our own label apple and pear juice from locally grown apples. Many of these are from private orchards and would otherwise be thrown away. We also stock Tutts Clump Cider which uses at least 50% locally produced apples.
Ramsbury Brewery, who provide our beer, lager, gin and vodka, are just up the road. They are working towards being the most sustainable business they can be – using barley from their fields, chalk-filtered water from their own source and heat generated by a biomass boiler fed from their own sustainable woodland. They feed the by-product of their brewing/distilling to their own cattle and thereby return it to the ground, as a full ‘re-cycle’!
We are also proud to be serving Mozzo Coffee who support their local communities and strive to be balanced and progressive in all they do by continually seeking to maximise impact, minimise the environmental impact and share the commercial value of their efforts.”
