Fairtrade & Organic Labels - Do They Sell More?

In terms of environmentally friendly goods, fairtrade and organic produce have seen immense interest in recent years with fairtrade produce sales alone increasing by 14% in 2020. These two groups have become synonymous with sustainable living and ethical consumerism, and in this blog, we look at what might be helping to drive their popularity.

Supply chains and processes

There is no denying the recent trend for consumers to seek out healthier food choices that also promote environmental sustainability and animal welfare. In line with this, they are becoming increasingly interested in supply chains and processes to back up sustainable credentials. Ethical consumers want to know the story behind the products; they want to know that goods were made in a fair way, that no harm was done to animals or the environment during their production, and that they are supporting people who live in poverty by buying them. Fairtrade play a crucial part in providing this information to the consumer.

Fairtrade is a better long-term business model

Fairtrade is appealing to consumers as it aims to help disadvantaged producers in developing countries; enabling producers to get a better deal for their products by linking them directly with consumers and offering longer-term relationships than traditional markets offer. This results in higher prices for farmers, which they can invest in improving their quality of life and ensuring sustainability for future generations.

The fairtrade statistics

According to a recent GlobeScan survey, 86% of customers make an effort to avoid buying products that harm biodiversity. Today, sustainable products account for 17% of the market, up significantly since the pandemic and growing twice as quickly as conventional products (fairtradeamerica.org)

More and more consumers want to know that the products they buy don't harm the planet. We are all becoming more aware of environmental issues and want to make sure our money is spent in an ethical manner. We also want to know if our products are natural or organic because it aligns with our lifestyle and choices.

Sustainable labels for sustainable products

At the GREEN LABEL company, we only sell biodegradable, compostable and recycled labels. Our paper materials come from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified sources, so we are assured that the paper is not produced from pulp from illegal logging. We work with a number of ethical coffee sellers, fairtrade chocolate makers, tea sellers and organic honey producers who want to align their products with their packaging.

If you are a producer or seller of fairtrade and organic goods and want to know how we can help with sustainable labels, please get in touch.
